Palmetto Bluff

Bray, a New Englander, faced a 953-mile challenge when he was hired to design a vacation home on South Carolina's tightly-regulated Palmetto Bluff waterway community which lies between Savannah, Georgia and Hilton Head Island at the confluence of three rivers and the inland waterway at Calibogue Sound.

The result is a unique property that is an homage to a traditional “low country” style – which he deconstructed into three freestanding parts, and then redesigned with a fanatical attention to geometric detail that would make Isosceles jealous. From the outside, one is welcomed by the sight of a classic southern casino with a circular twist on the long plantation drive, but the interior bears the hallmarks of a Yankee architect who has embraced the Low Country aesthetic while leaving his Northern sensibilities firmly intact.
